Over 50’s Yoga with Alix
I run a very gentle class suitable for most people over 50, and it’s also suitable for those under 50 who would like a class at a gentle pace. It is quite a varied class, I don’t do the same thing week after week. You’ll learn breathing techniques, rudiments of meditation, Asanas (held poses), many and varied preliminary exercises, Mudras or hand positions, Bandhas (locks), Mantras or chants to aid meditation, the Sanskrit terms for many of these things, the history and philosophy behind what we are doing, and the health benefits thereof. As millions of people worldwide will testify, yoga is one of the best ways we can look after our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health. It is calming, strengthening and restorative, and helps with a wide variety of health issues from back ache to asthma, anxiety to eczema, high blood pressure, stress and practically everything in between. We always start with a period of relaxation and finish with a Yoga Nidra which is a very restorative deep guided relaxation. I think you will enjoy it, and I always encourage newcomers to be especially careful to go slowly, not overstretching or over holding. Gradually over time, you will feel enormous benefits, become stronger, leaner, have greater flexibility and better balance, less ill-health and a greater inner feeling of calm and contentment.
